A Horse Head in My Bank Account

Started by micah · 9 months ago

Come, young entrepreneurs, sit down, I have a story to tell.
About four years or so ago, I started a search marketing agency with a friend. But you know that.
About a year or so into Current Wisdom, we were generating quite a bit of money. But you know that, too.

  • Hmm, Yom Kippur is Wednesday, the annual Day of Atonement and fasting for all good Jews. We are also in a period of Mercury retrograde where things that were set in motion prior are settled during this time. All that and the IRS caught up w/ you. But, it's a new year as of last week, so take a deep breath, fast, reflect, and start fresh on Thursday.

This is somewhat typical entrepreneurial behavior and experience...just in case that's any consolation.

Oh, and I have a fantastic tax/corporate attorney, Joshua Brinen in New York who saved my ass! California came after me for $9,000+ in totally erroneous taxes! My ex got a bill for $5,000+ for 2005 when we didn't even live in California yet!
  • ....runs to make sure she's talked to her accountant.....

The good news is Micah is smart and will totally recover. And then buy me dinner.
  • The good news is that life without learning is not worth living, even
if the lessons are due to narcassitic behavior. :)
  • I guess the IRS is forcibly making you patriotic, because paying your taxes is patriotic.

    So they tell me.
  • That's one way of looking at it. I prefer that the IRS is forcing me
to grow up, which every great idiot has to do at some point.
  • now will you go and vote? that's patriotic too ;-)

(not to mention the sign of a grown up)
  • I am patriotic. My decision to not vote is patiotic.
  • Been there done that my man. Let me introduce you to a friend of mine (no, not Jesus, LOL) http://daveramsey.com
  • Sorry man, I get upset when I make financial mistakes too... but they only cost me about $20. I'll multiply that feeling by 200 and try to feel the same way. :(
  • Not that I have much of a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of right now, but I am willing to float you a little. I will even buy you dinner the next time you are in town :-)
  • Thanks dude. I was thinking about doing a Benefit Concert for a Poor
    Ass Jew...would you attend?
  • Depends, can I get an appearance fee? :-)
  • It's a fucking benefit concert asshole!
  • No shit Sherlock, I was making a funny. Of course I would come to any event to support you :-)
  • well at least the IRS a can't come and steal your memories of all those good times...wait...the drugs can. Damn flat broke with no memories is no sort of fun. I am all for a Micah benefit concert!
  • Oh, I remember all the good times. That I do. There were a lot of them
    too...
  • I remember those two times when you paid for my dinners at social gatherings, I'd be happy to get you back sometime soon! :)
  • I appreciate it, thanks!
  • Sorry man that sucks. I knew your Fabergé egg omelets habit was going to cause problems.
  • That and my enjoyment of pure gold napkins.
  • Someday Micah's autobiography will make the NYT Bestseller list and he'll be throwing the benefit concerts. Life is all about leaning from experiences as Micah said above - I have the utmost respect for people who turn the shitty times into lessons and learn and grow from them.
  • Whatever you do, please don't sell the animals!

    (I know you won't!)

As always, thanks for being so honest.
  • Has read with the pleasure, very interesting post, write still, good luck to you!
