Comment Of The Day

Started by micah · 10 months ago

Disqus offers a new feature, similar to the one on tumblr, to reblog comments. I have begun to get more comments, and each day (or so), I will follow Fred Wilson and Bijan Sabet’s lead and reblog one comment.
I really liked this well thought out comment by Roz. The fact tha ... Continue reading »

  • Dear Micah:

I use Google Alerts for my various keywords as well as variations of my name. That's how I found the honor you have bestowed upon me for "Comment of the Day!"

I am BLOWN AWAY that you selected my Comment on voting. THANK YOU!!! If you could see me now you would see I am wearing a broad smile! WOW!!!

Back to the Election, since I have your ear...

Watching as little as I can of the RNC convention I am now more certain than ever we are in a world of trouble. The point is, as I said the other day, NOT voting is a thrown away vote. No matter what!

We saw first hand... when Al Gore and George W Bush were running, EVERY vote counts. A lesson that should be well learned BY ALL!

Sarah Palin may be an expert in Governorship and Mayorship in Alaska, but running a country the size of the USA is out of the question in my book. IF a woman were to do it, it SHOULD HAVE BEEN HILLARY! (And yes, Sarah did give an impressive speech, but so did Rudy Giuliani!)

In my opinion... IF the US is NOT ready for a woman president, then it SHOULD NOT be ready for a woman Vice President as she would be a heartbeat away from the presidency. John McCain is 72 years old. While I hope he lives 72 more years, even if he did, he would not be presidential material, so the job would fall to Sarah Palin. (I realize this is a way out comment, but the point is valid!)

As a woman, I see her view on abortion... or lack of... as absurd. It is one thing to be Pro Life, but quite another to want to force women to carry to term, a child conceived in rape or incest. It is absolutely absurd.

I come from an era where abortion was NOT legal, and the outcome was more deaths of women who tried other methods or doctors that were not equipped for the procedure. WE DO NOT... WANT TO GO BACK THERE!!!

I had more, but decided to delete it. LOL

Micah... Thanks again for the honor.

My parting words... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... VOTE! It is YOUR right and one that will serve US ALL... THIS TIME around. PLEASE VOTE!!!

    Have a great day!

  • Roz, I understand your fervor. and I respect it. But, my decision to not vote has nothing to do with much of what you outlined (which is well thought out and makes sense). Here is my point: The system is broken. Neither of the candidates represent me. Therefore, if I vote, I am condoning the system I no longer believe in. Cant do it.
  • Don't vote. Statistically, your vote is less than meaningless, and your contribution would be significantly greater if you spent the time you would have voted, say, working and donating that money to a cause of your choice.

Economist Tyler Cowen refers to voting as an inherently selfish act, something we do to feel smug and hold over others. I agree with him.

No one appears to wake up and smell the coffee until the two major ticket nominees are selected. It is far, far, far too late to do anything at that point. We're left with two people chosen because they have good speech writers and know some of the right people. What excellent qualifications.

If you want to get involved in political issues, do it at the local level. Forego your local political system altogether and do it yourself, privately. You'll actually make an impact on people's lives that way.
  • I agree that I can do more locally. And if we all did more locally, it would move the country forward much more than every four years getting all worked up around two people. I spent a lot of time doing things that I consider helpful to people and the country. For me, thats so much more useful than any vote.
  • "......Watching as little as I can of the RNC convention I am now more certain than ever we are in a world of trouble......."

So don't watch but judge it anyways!?!? Typical. Considering you don't even know how to spell Joe Biden's name.....PLEASE go away!!
  • Absolutely right Micah, we can really change thinga round us by just taking the initiative and helping out whenever we can. That promotes peace, unity and harmony. That is what really matters and not what others say will make the change.
