I played 3 years of collegiate rugby... the physicality of it puts everything into a different perspective.
Get your doughy kid off the couch.. a good competitive ass beating, giving or getting, will do wonders.

The same has been true for me in any part of life. Competition is great -- brings out the best in people. In lacrosse you just feel the competition a bit more directly -- especially when you wear those flimsy 1950's arm pads that I used to wear.

I'd like to add #11 - sometimes the best thing you can do is lay someone out with a huge, open field hit near a ground ball. You might be penalized, but it will do wonders for your team's morale (and you might not get this, as I've seen the way Americans shy away from big hits).
