You might be penalized, but it will do wonders for your team's morale (and you might not get this, as I've seen the way Americans shy away from big hits).

Re: What I Learned While Being Beaten By Sticks

Good to see some lacrosse love on here. I remember playing in high school and college and always trying to match up against the best opponent on either end of the field. When I was on defense, that meant I got beat a fair amount -- but I learned a lot faster. Same thing on the offensive end. It was always tempting to attack the goal when you felt matched on a weaker player, but I always tried to go at the best guys and see what would happen. What often happened is that I got tossed around like a rag doll, beaten with a long pole, but it made me a better player faster.

The same has been true for me in any part of life. Competition is great -- brings out the best in people. In lacrosse you just feel the competition a bit more directly -- especially when you wear those flimsy 1950's arm pads that I used to wear.

Re: What I Learned While Being Beaten By Sticks

Well said. As a lacrosse player I can definitely relate to this post. As a founder and CEO I can relate too, especially as I build my team. So many similarities.

Re: What I Learned While Being Beaten By Sticks

+1 for Physical sports.

I played 3 years of collegiate rugby... the physicality of it puts everything into a different perspective.

Get your doughy kid off the couch.. a good competitive ass beating, giving or getting, will do wonders.
